Woman Sparks Debate With Idea To Charge Guests For Attending Husband’s Birthday Party
In an anonymous post of Mumsnet, she said that her husband’s birthday was near and he has spoken to her about a special birthday. Her husband has asked her to organize something as a surprise. She had some ideas for activities, but the cost is roughly £35 per person.
She was curious to know if it was appropriate to ask everyone to pay around £35 to be included in the celebration of his big day so she took up this question on social media. She asked her followers if it was ok or should she pay for them. She told everyone that she wanted to invite 10 people.
The users in the comment section had different views over this controversial request. One person said that it was fine if she did so. He asked her to make sure that the people know beforehand so that they can budget accordingly.
Another said that it was better for her to do whatever she could do within her affordability (aside from a pay bar at a party or something). But only she’d know how her friends would react to her idea. A third person added that it was completely fine to ask people to pay if there was an activity etc., he would be happy with that for a friend’s birthday. He wouldn’t want someone to pay for his ticket.
A few people said that it depended on the circumstances. One person wrote that it depends if it was a party and she wanted them to cover for their own food and drinks then that was somewhat strange. However, if he received a message from a friend that it was someone’s birthday and they were planning to go for paintballing, it was £35 each, then he wouldn’t mind paying for it.
But others thought that it was a bit rude to invite people to celebrate an event, only to expect them to pay for the pleasure. One of them commented that it was wrong for her to invite people and ask them to pay.
The original poster later clarified that she was not charging entry into her house for a party but was just planning to book an activity for his big day.
