Ten-Year-Old Who Couldn’t Walk, Runs The Disney Princess 5K Race
Kazakhstan to Cincinnati, Ohio Erin jumped right into Hannah’s treatment. The treatment included intensive physical therapy. The therapy bore fruit as Hannah started walking by the age of two. While talking of toddler Hannah, Herman told WKRC Cincinnati that she used the walker for a long time, until it all came together and she started walking. She had the endurance, strength, and coordination. Walking wasn’t the only milestone Hannah crossed. She went on to conquer the world of running and swimming too. She swam and ran competitively, and also set some new records in swimming.
On 21st February, the duo ran the Disney Princess 5K Race at Walt Disney World and was ironically also the “Hannahversary”. Hannahversary was a day that they celebrated every year where they celebrated Erin adopting Hannah. Celebrating that year’s Hannahversary by participating in the runDisney Disney Princess race weekend was extra meaningful for the pair.
Talking about this feat, Herman told the Disney Park Blog that it was a very special place to celebrate. She had always thought of Hannah as her personal fairytale. She was Herman’s dream come true, and here they were at the happiest place on earth together. For them, the race was more than a celebration of life. It was a celebration for all those who were told they couldn’t do “it”, but who did it anyway.
Talking to FOX19, Herman said that Hannah was an inspiration for many. She’s the one who lets nothing and nobody stops her. She was told she couldn’t swim, she set some new records. She was told she couldn’t walk; she is now running the 5K. The significance of the occasion is not lost to the 10-year old Hannah either. She knows she gives hope to other kids who also face such adversities. Hannah says she wants to be an inspiration to them and show them how to persevere and walk through their own tough times
On the personal front, she has her future in mind. She has loftier goals already set. She aims to compete in a Triathlon. Hannah, ending the interview with WKRC Cincinnati, said that it’s the things to which people say yes, are the only things that have the power to change lives. Anyone can look at the kid and decide to not let that kid’s story end there. What any child ever needs is a loving and caring home, something many of us can provide if we set our heart at.
Hannah is one of those kids who never let the hurdles bring her down. She has been a fighter, just like her mother. She has been a warrior all along and continues to be one each day. She did not allow her Clubfoot to stop her but used that to push herself to excellence, and achieved everything she aimed for.
