Teenagers Set Up Business To Retire Their Mother

Lifestyle July, 14, 2025

They came up with this plan so that they could provide their mom with freedom from searching for some jobs to raise her kids. They began executing on their plan seven years ago and now it seems like they have achieved their target successfully because their 49-year old mom, Kal Dhillon no longer needs to work and can live her life peacefully on her terms.

In 7 years, these two brothers have expanded their business so well that they have some celebrities as their clients namely Demarai Gray, the midfielder of Leicester City, Wycombe Wanderers’ striker Adebayo Akinfenwa, and one of the contestants from the British reality show ‘Love Island’, Molly-Mae Hague.

Jhai Dhillon described his journey while talking with LADbible saying: “When my brother and I got to around 16/18 years old, we realized that mum had essentially given up her chance of a career, as her ‘job’ was raising my brother and I when we were younger.”

When these two brothers grew up, they both figured it out that their mother had given up everything else just to look after them. Plus, their mom had to look for part-time jobs in the supermarkets which made them realize that they had to plan something to change their situation for something good. So, they were looking for an option where Kal Dhillon could enjoy working as a manager instead of being a general staff at Tesco.

Mum’s worked in the same job since before I was born. It’s unglamorous yet it provided her with the flexibility to spend time with us growing up ??????? – When I turned 18, I became aware that we’d prevented Mum from having a career. I felt guilty so I promised Mum that I’d find her a new career. I quickly realised that the world doesn’t make it easy for a woman to spend 20 years prioritising her kids, and then start a ‘career’ ? – There were options available, yet I knew none would improve Mum’s quality of life. Jobs would pay more, yet they’d be unfulfilling. Courses promised development, yet weren’t designed for someone who hadn’t seen a classroom in 2 decades ? – Failing to accept defeat, I had one last idea – I told mum that the best way for her to learn & develop would be to work in a business which I created, so that I could teach her ? – Fast forward 5 years and this week, Mum turns 49. She’s been helping us with RNS for 3 years whilst reducing hours in her current job. We challenge her to solve problems. We give her responsibility to lead. We encourage her to innovate ? – Today, Mum visited Bristol & I was able to give her the green light: “Hand in your notice Mum, you’ll never work for anyone else again.” ?? – It’s incredible what impact you can have on people when you invest time into their development. It’s what we seek to do with all of our clients & staff, not just with Mum, and that will never change ? – Visit RNSMEALS.COM and we’ll treat you the way we treat our Mum ????

Jhai added, “As the business grew, we gradually reduced the days she was working at Tesco as we could support her financially in return for her helping out at the business.” Finally, his mom was able to retire from her job at Tesco in December 2019 and now helps these boys in the business by attending the meetings and managing shifts. Jhai feels that his mom is happy with whatever she’s currently doing.

He further informed that the company was started by his brother Simmy when he was studying at the University of Bristol in February 2017 and was meant only for the students in its initial period. When there was a decent progress after a few months in the business, Jhai came in to establish another branch in Hitchin, Hertfordshire which is their home town.

He along with his mother took care of the branch in Hitchin whereas Simmy, the university student was also working on it. Jhai was also a professional footballer, but he decided to end his football career and look after the company.

Even Simmy took a year gap from his university for the same reason. Their arduous efforts have put so much life into the company that they are having 16 additional staff as of now. This company has given so much relief to their mother that she is now able to find out some time for either workouts or yoga and reading books.
