Womanhood July, 14, 2025

It happened on January 22, when Janet Karina Soto-Rodriguez was attending an award ceremony for her second grader Luigiani along with her husband Andres. They were at IDEA Bluff Springs School when they knew their baby was about to arrive with a grand entry.

When she realized that she had unexpectedly went into labor, she immediately went to the bathroom. However, she was soon found by teachers AmberlynnBalli, Valentina Davalos and Erica Beverly, according to a post written by Principal Virginia Callaway.

Davalos, a second-grade math teacher immediately got the gist of it when he saw a pale faced Andres by the bathroom door. He told Good Morning America, “When I saw him at the bathroom and saw his face, I just said, ‘Oh no, the baby is here’”.

But like the Three Musketeers, they sprang into action and to start it off, each one took a different role: Balli helped with translating Spanish to the 911 operator, Davalos gathered care for the baby and Beverly took care of Janet according to the operator’s instructions.

Beverely, one of the teachers who helped out with the situation said, “There were a lot of things that needed to take place in a matter of split seconds. It now seems like a huge thing that we did, but at the time, we didn’t think of it like that.”.

Balli further noted: “We wanted to make the delivery as comfortable and beautiful and private as possible no matter the circumstances.”

Principal Callaway added in her post that both the mother and the child are healthy and recovering from the little adventure they had. They were soon admitted to the hospital after the delivery.

Abiding by their duties, the teachers immediately went to the classrooms to complete their duties. However, soon after they visited the hospital to congratulate the mother-daughter. Their beautiful daughter is named Andrea.

Beverly continued, “Our biggest focus over the next 24 hours was, ‘Did we do everything right to make sure they were safe?’ We thought about that until we were able to see them the next day. Once we knew they were safe and healthy, that was a moment of pride for us.”

Being called an extremely brave girl, Andrea will receive a bit of help; she will have a full-ride college scholarship when she graduates from IDEA Public Schools.
