A rude bride recently came under fire online when she shamed a guest by calling her wedding gift ‘cheap’ and said that she would have preferred an envelope of cash instead.
It’s a tradition to bring gifts for the couple at a wedding but of course no one is required to do so. Some people buy from the registry, to gift the bride and groom a gift of that will help them in their new life together. Others choose something suitable of their own choice.
One guest at a wedding decided to gift the couple something of her own choice and presented a hamper of treats. The hamper contained numerous items including sweets, a jar of marshmallow fluffs, biscuits and crisps. She accompanied the gift with a card with a sweet message, which was “Life is delicious – Enjoy”. While anyone would be glad to receive such a thoughtful gift, the bride was least impressed.
Following the wedding which took place in 2013 – a picture of hamper went viral. It was shared by the woman who gifted it, Kathy Mason. The photo is several years old but when it resurfaced on a social media platform; it caused a stir with users.
Kathy captioned the image explaining that instead of receiving a warm thank you for the basket she sent, she received a rude message from the bride. Laura, the bride messaged Kathy that the gift wasn’t good enough, and an envelope of cash would have been better than the cheap hamper.
According to a website, Laura’s message read: “I want to thank you for coming to the wedding. I am not sure if it’s the first wedding you have been to, but for the next wedding… people give envelopes. I lost out on $200 covering you and your date’s plate… and got fluffy whip and sour patch kids in return. Just a heads up for the future.”
According to Kathy she had done nothing wrong and seems like Reddit users agree with her. The photo was shared in the Wedding Shaming community on the site along with the caption that said “Bride shames wedding gift.” Laura was labeled as “rude” and “tacky” in the comment section for her impolite response to Kathy.
One person asked what planet is the horrible bride living on? He called her rude hag and said if she didn’t like the gift then she could have re-gifted it to someone and moved on with her life. There was no need to send a snarky email to the guest and to inform her about the cost of plate spent on the wedding. Another person commented that Laura was a heinous person. While another one proclaimed that if she was so desperate for money, she shouldn’t have blown $200per person on a fancy wedding. Someone else replied that the bride may not realize but it actually can get pretty damn costly to put baskets together.
