Husband Refused To Be Present At Child’s Birth Due To Work
Sadly, one man recently told his wife the shocking news that he won’t be able to be present at the birth of their first child because of the workload in the office. It was expected that the mother-to-be wouldn’t be happy listening to this.
She said on Reddit that she already has the C-section lined up for Sunday and her husband said he couldn’t be there with her because he had to go for a business trip for which He would be leaving on Saturday evening. When she asked him to miss the meeting, he said he couldn’t even if he tried to because he has skipped several work trips in the past six months. He feared that he might be fired if he refused to go.
She then asked him whether he could make his boss understand the situation, but she was told that he wouldn’t listen or care. She started to feel extremely distressed about going through the birth alone. She explained herself by saying that the problem is that it was her first time and just like any other woman she wanted her husband to be there with her so that she feels comforted.
She continued saying that his justification was that she had an entire medical team and it was not like she was having a natural birth, she would be under anesthesia anyway. Instead, the father-to-be put forward the idea of taking her mother, or even his mother. to the hospital with her. But she argued that he should be the first person to meet their son.
The man went on to tell his wife the work trip was very important to him as then he would be able to financially provide for both her and their child. However, she was stubborn and said she would much rather have his emotional support throughout the birth.
All this led to a huge fight between the couple. He called her ‘selfish’ and blamed her for portraying him as a ‘bad husband’. Soon after, he apologized for his comments but said that he felt intimidated by his wife even after she knew his work circumstances.
The majority of people were petrified by the man’s unwillingness to be at his first child’s birth. But some questioned whether there could be hidden agenda as to why he didn’t want to be there.
One of the users said that if she had scheduled the delivery then he must have known it long before the timing and so he should have taken the time off already. While some completely disagreed and said that the man felt emotionally unequipped to deal with the birth and was using work as an excuse to make his way out of it.
