Dad Created An Innovative Book To Help His Son Beat Anxiety
Greg Sullivan, an award-winning artist, animator, screenwriter and novelist, thought of using his professional skills into a project which will make his son feel lively. Thus, Sullivan decided to publish his first book, ‘Gregory Dragon Is Just the Same’.
Sullivan gave this book to his son on his fifth birthday, just the right time when his son was facing a difficult time and trying to fit with his classmates. Sullivan informed: “He’s tall for his age, skinny, and has a birthmark, all of which had him feeling insecure and isolated.”
Sullivan wanted to develop something that would teach his son important lessons that would help him remain happy throughout his life. With the help of this book he told his son “not only to embrace his unique characteristics but to celebrate them as well.” In the book, Sullivan made the use of his animation skills at his level best. In the field of animation, he has done some amazing work with NASA and JPL for the Mars Insight mission. Not only this, he has also won an Emmy award for it as well.
‘Gregory Dragon Is Just the Same’ succeeded in changing up the basic traditional children’s book narratives. Through the young dragon character in the lead, Sullivan tried to make some good proclamations to a younger audience. Sullivan says “I swapped the roles and had Gregory Dragon educate the misguided narrator”.
One reviewer wrote: “I loved how the author/illustrator used color to delineate between speakers. The eyes of each little dragon really captures the emotion he or she is feeling, and the lesson of how God made each of us in our own special way comes through loud and clear. The real little Gregory is blessed to have a daddy who loves him so much!”
‘Gregory Dragon is Just the Same’ has a storyline which gives a strong message to every child who is suffering with the same problem. The book’s website has a great description which reads “Gregory Dragon is just like all the other dragons, or so the narrator says. But Gregory Dragon disagrees and refuses to let the story be told until he’s had his say”.
Sullivan was so happy to watch his son sharing his present (the book) with his schoolmates and even with other members of his family. Sullivan, now wish that his book would help all children who feel isolated and insecure. He published his book and sent it into the world and received some fantastic response from the ‘little dragons’ across the world.
