Can A Holiday Drink Cost You Your Sight? This Girl Did And Nobody Is Taking The Responsibility For The Mistake
It was three years ago when Hannah Powell was on a bar crawl with two of her friends in Zante, Greece. Now 23, Hannah had been ordering vodka drinks and what she didn’t know was that the drinks were mixed with deadly methanol.
Hannah didn’t realize what had happened with her until she woke up the next morning. Initially, she thought that the lights in her room were off. After this, her kidneys shut down and she was blind. She asked her friends to open the curtains and when they said that they were ale=ready open, she thought they were kidding and got up to switch on the lights. That’s when it hit her that she had actually lost her sight.
Tests that were later conducted, suggested that she had some toxic drinks. It has been three years and still, no action or responsibility has been taken in this matter. She said that she didn’t expect anyone to step up and take responsibility but she thinks that someone should have. It was either the restaurant’s fault or someone made her a dodgy drink, whatever the case was, Hannah wouldn’t have had the drink if she had even a clue about something.
Her mother just wants justice for her as the consequences were deadly and she has been going through it every day since then. Also, other than being blind, she was even going for dialysis for her daily survival, until her mother went under the knife and gave her own kidney to Hannah. Her mother is now the hero of her life.
Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), a sight loss charity has been supporting Hannah and has been providing her with the equipment that helps her to read again. In this period, her eyesight has gone from completely black to very foggy and things have been difficult to do on her own. She is now considering to get a guide dog that will make her independent.
