Bride Asked Guests To Write Essays To Book A Spot At Her Wedding

Relationships July, 13, 2025

She made the guest compete by asking them to write an application essay to book a spot at her wedding. The bride-to-be’s sister took it to Reddit and asked the users if she is wrong for refusing to RSVP to the big day, as she has to apply for a spot at the wedding.

She wrote, “My sister is getting married next February, destination wedding no less. Because of the pandemic, her original venue has made her cut down on guests because they are cutting capacity by half.”

“As a result, she is sending out ‘re-invites’ that ask everyone to RSVP again. But in order to figure out who to invite and who to cut, she is asking all confirmed guests to submit two 250-word essays to two questions.”

They will decide who can come or not based on people’s enthusiasm. According to the bride, people who don’t write essays at all will be automatically disqualified.

The sister shared her feelings on Reddit and said that she was feeling insulted since she has to compete for an invite and thought that her sibling wanted people to butter her up.

The two essay questions include, “Why do you still want to celebrate this day with us?” and “What will attending our wedding mean to you specifically?”

Her sister further said, “I told her in advance I am not writing 500 words on why I need to attend her wedding, spend my own money on plane tickets/hotels, and buy her a present.”

Her comment hit her sister and her parents the incorrect way. The bride said, “To keep things fair if her sister doesn’t fill out the RSVP correctly, she won’t be saved a spot.” In the eyes of their parents, she should fill the essay because if she doesn’t show up at the wedding it will cause her great trouble with her relatives.

Unable to decide, she turns to the internet for advice on who is right in this situation.

Reddit users had different thoughts about the whole situation. One person commented, “I would definitely send in two essays. The first one would say ‘Mom/Dad said I have to come or I am in a big trouble’ over and over again until you hit 250. The second, ‘I am your sibling’.”

Another person wrote, “Tell your parents that if they want you to attend so badly, they should write the essays for you.” A third person tagged the whole situation as “insane”, while the person proclaimed it to be “ridiculous”, writing, “I hope no one writes the essay so she can see how ridiculous she is being.”

Some other person wrote, “I think this is one of the most idiotic Bridezilla performances I’ve seen.”
