7-Year-Old Wrote Heart Breaking Letter To Santa From Domestic Abuse Shelter

Relationships July, 12, 2025

Blake and his mother are living in shelter which works under Safe Haven of Tarrant County. It serves those victims in Fort Worth, Texas, who are domestically abused.

Blake’s mother found his letter to Santa in his backpack. In his letter, he first mentioned how rough this year had been from him and his mother. Then he asked Santa for gifts which included books and dictionary. He wrote:

Dear Santa,
We had to leave our house. Dad was mad. We had to all the chores. Dad get everything he wanted. Mom said it was time to leave and she would take us to a safer place where we don’t have to be scared. I’m still nervous. I don’t want to talk to the other kids. Are you going to come this Christmas? We don’t have any of our stuff here. Can you bring some chapter books, a dictionary and a compass and a watch? I also want a very very very good dad. Can you do that too?
Love, Blake.

Safe Haven officials published his letter to remind its followers to donate presents for the kids this Christmas who lived there. The caption of the post read, “With 117 women and children needing shelter this holiday season, we need your help to make sure that they have a safe place to stay throughout December.” They also thanked for the donations made through Santa’s sack. Blake also got the gifts which he asked from Santa.

The post shared by Safe Haven went viral and reached more people than just Santa. Kathryn Jacob, the CEO of Safe Haven was surprised and said, “We never anticipated that it would get the kind of attention it had gotten.” It was a surprise to her because, sadly, Blake’s story was not uncommon to her. She said, “To us, it was a kind of story we have heard all the time. Like tonight, we have 73 kids in the shelter. So, Blake is just one of many.”

The outpouring of support for Blake and his mom today has been INCREDIBLE! For those concerned, we can assure you that…

Jacob also added that Blake and his mother have been living in their shelter since Thanksgiving and will continue to stay with them this holiday season. Some people were concerned about the safety of Blake and his mother and thought that sharing the letter online might prove to be dangerous for them. To this Jacob clarified that they both were safe. In a follow-up post, Jacob wrote, “For those concerned, we can assure that Blake and his mother’s safety has been compromised by sharing this letter. The outpouring support for Blake and his mother today has been incredible.”

As the post was shared online on Facebook, many stories of domestic abuse came to light in the comment section. Jacob said that she was deeply touched by those stories. Jacob explained that in Texas, one in three women experience domestic abuse in their lifetime. Even though the stats were known, the comments made by such women that they could relate to this was remarkable.
