4-Year-Old Calls 911 And Saves The Lives Of Other Toddlers
It was a very sensitive day for the people of Maryland as seven toddlers were left in the car by themselves. One the toddlers of age 4-years called 911 and told the department that he along with six other toddlers were left in the car by themselves. The toddlers could not identify the place where the car was parked. But thanks to the technology the police department was able to track down the location of the phone.
The phone call was traced to a parking lot in a mall. The police department dispatched a team immediately and saved the toddlers who were trapped in the car. The police found seven toddlers from the age of 2 years – 4 years trapped in the car with the windows rolled up. The temperature of the area was up to 80 degrees and the children were left about for 20 minutes in the car alone.
When the police found the children they were scared and sweaty according to the reports of WJLA7. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the inside temperature of the car had risen to 20 degrees in the first 10 minutes. When the task force reached the parking lot, the officers helped the children out of the vehicle and immediate treatment was given to them on the spot.
According to a sheriff’s statement, Charles County Fire/EMS provided treatment on the scene. Within 10 minutes of the police arriving and rescuing the children, a 37-year-old returned to the car. She was charged with many allegations one of them being confinement of children inside a motor vehicle. She is the mother of two children that were present in the car and was babysitting the rest of them.
According to the rules and regulations of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it is against the law to leave a child under the age of 8 years in a vehicle unattended. If the parents or the caregiver is out of sight the child should be left with a person of age 13 years or more. The rule does not apply for children but pets as well especially when the outside temperature is warm.
Extreme temperatures can be fatal for any living being and thus nobody should be left unattended in a vehicle with the windows rolled up. The police department is protecting the identity of the children and the mother but she is not safe from charges.
