Parents have the most right to name their baby irrespective of whether people like the name or not but some cases are different. Recently, a woman claimed that her brother hates the name she has decided for her to-be-baby as it sounds like a dying cow. While deciding on a baby name is a difficult task, the woman from the UK is further tensed as she received a lot of criticism about her choices.

Revealing more about her situation, she said that most of her family members hate the names she has thought of as they are influenced by Viking characters of a TV show that she likes to watch with her boyfriend. The woman’s brother shared anonymously on Reddit that her sister who is a mother-to-be was initially planning for a conventional name as her choices of Viking characters’ names like Thora and Katta were rejected. Unfortunately, she later came up with more options like Freja, Ada, Molly, Faye, and Lagertha to name her baby.

Telling about how absurd and hilarious he felt, the man said that he cannot accept his niece with the name Lagertha as the child would be criticized badly by people. Denial from the family agitated the mother-to-be. The man shared that her 22-year-old sister and her boyfriend are too much inspired by Scandinavian names. Though the family did not dishearten her for her choices earlier recently she added a few names to her list which none of the family members liked.

On her sister’s influential name list, the man responded saying that ‘Lagertha’ sounded like a dying cow and he probably thought that she was joking so he suggested a few normal names. This discussion fumed the woman as she refused to listen. For the child’s good, her brother said that the kid would be ridiculed for the name and therefore she should re-think it. He added that the name sounded like a shipyard term.

For being right, the man researched the name and discovered that it was a real name and belonged to a Viking character from the TV show. He found that since 2016 only 35 people are named with that name. The woman got angry and freaked out at her brother for upsetting her. The man had a point though that the name was unusual and he doesn’t want to see the kid being bullied and neither could most people pronounce it correctly.

Sadly, the man felt that he messed up the situation and regretted that his sister felt that he was being rude. The family eventually told the man to keep his suggestions out as her sister’s happiness mattered much more to everyone. Though the family didn’t support the man, he received a lot of support from the users on Reddit as they highlighted the fact that he was just pointing out the negatives of the names.

A person commented that his hilarious reaction indicated that the name is a bad one and he was just saving the newborn from some criticism, also the mother would have to spend the rest of her life correcting people to pronounce it right. A second person commented that unfortunately, the child would have to bear the consequences of the parent’s decision, the user added that naming a child is no joke and people should normalize blaming parents for silly names.

Yet another user commented that the man was correct but he just lacked in building a strategy to convince her sister.
