Woman Doesn’t Want to Share Birthday with Sister’s Baby

Relationships July, 10, 2025

A teenager turned to Reddit to share the rift between her and her family over the birth of her sister’s baby. She was upset with the news that her sister had chosen her birthday for her induction without asking her. She felt that would spoil her birthday forever. She snapped at her sister for that, irking her family.

Some people love their birthday the most. They sulk at the very thought of compromising that day for some reason. Not just that, they also do not like the idea of sharing their birthday with anybody else. They do not want to lose out on the attention and treatment that they get from their family and friends. Thus, they get mad at the slightest threat to their birthday. A 16-year-old girl saw that coming her way when her pregnant sister revealed her induction date falling on her birthday.

The teenager was seeing her family getting ready to welcome a new member. Her 25-year-old sister got to know that she was pregnant a few months back. Thus, her parents were over the moon after getting that news. They were showering their love, care and attention on her sister. The girl did not share a close bond with her elder sister. She felt that her sister never wanted to share her space with her in the family. But she did not mind her parents and other family members pampering her. Everything was going fine until her sister revealed the induction date.

The soon-to-be mother informed the family that she had chosen 1st March for her induction. Everybody in the family was overjoyed on hearing that, except the teenager. Contrary to her family’s reaction, she was upset with her sister's choice. After all, 1st March was her birthday. She did not want to share it with her baby. Her disillusionment transitioned into her anger. She ended up yelling at her sister. On receiving that, her sister broke into tears. Her family also turned against her. Since then, her family had been sidelining her.

Analyzing her stance and sharing her agony, she took to Reddit’s AITA platform. Throwing light on a recent occurrence at her home she wrote, “Around a couple of months ago, my sister discovered that she is pregnant and nothing has really changed ever since. As usual, my parents are showering all their love on her, and once again, I have been overshadowed by her. It didn’t bother me until yesterday when she announced that she had decided on her induction date. She chose March 1st which is my birthday.”

Adding to that, she said, “I don't know if it's just the immature teenager in me but I was very angry. I confronted her, questioning why she had to choose my birthday, and she said that it wasn’t important and that I should be happy to have my birthday with the baby. I yelled at her for being such a terrible sister and told her that her baby is nothing to me.” She continued, “I feel like an ass because maybe she thought it was going to be some sort of bonding experience but also she never asked me if I was okay with it first," she said, before turning to Reddit for advice.”

People turned up to express their stance. One user chided her for her reaction by writing, “Why on earth would you think you should be consulted? I mean, apart from living in the illusion that you are the centre of the universe?” To her relief, some Reddit users came to her defense. One of them advised her not to babysit.
