Puttering: a way to engage in productive relaxation

Home July, 12, 2025

Puttering is a therapy for the mind as well as for the house. Puttering refers to occupying yourself in an unhurried and pleasant manner on several small tasks. It does not demand one to concentrate on anything in particular. One can do things to boost one’s mood. It makes one feel different at home. It is good to slow down.

Imagine you come back from a hectic day. You sit on an easy chair in your garden reading your favorite book and tuning into the bird’s chirpings. How soothing does it look to you? Doing nothing in particular can boost your energy. It can also condition your mental health. Therefore, puttering is a therapy an individual can have at their home.

Not just that, it can also help one show love towards one’s home. One can do a little thing for the home. Then, one can feel the same love getting back to one. Therefore, puttering is good exercise for you and your home. Well, it does not necessitate one to do things step by step in a planned manner. One can raise the bar of expectations with random steps. They should also not put together a mundane.

The main goal of puttering is to sit and show love to your home through ‘extreme home makeover.’ There are many ways to deliver on that part. It is all about enjoying doing little things. It depends on the individual and how that person is interested to tinker.

For instance, one can look forward to drawing inspiration by swapping pillow covers. Not just that, one can also stir interest by placing things at new locations in the house to see how that will look. Apart from that, one can also find joy in decluttering the surface or repotting a plant in the garden. Changing flowers in the vase can give joy and a sense of love. Puttering that started from one place can end at the other place or it can just limit to one corner.

Adding to that, one can also not afford to be in a slump! If you are procrastinating or not feeling motivated enough to complete your work, then puttering can help get you out of that loop. Therefore, puttering offers you a home therapy session.

To dawdle, there is no need for an individual to make decisions. One should just sit and spend time with your surroundings and can do the things which one likes to do in the surroundings. It is a soothing exercise for one and also helps to nurture the bond between one and one’s home strong.

One can also make a hot drink for oneself while vibing on musical melodies. One can go with the instincts to see what is in store. This exercise has aced to be a mood booster even when the individual is not performing any big task. Small work like cleaning stands, dusting the tabletop, and cleaning one’s car can help rejuvenate one’s mood!

There are times when we don’t feel like doing things. We feel demotivated because of regular ups and downs in life. We get lost in the ongoing hustle and bustle of our lives and need a break from all that. To get out of the loop of the slump, one must sit, relax, and think. We must try and inculcate the habit of puttering into our life. Then, one can see how it will make a difference.

Puttering can celebrate the therapy domain to the full. Refreshing and happy vibes can take a new high with it.
