Mom Asks For £70 From Guests For A Sumptuous Birthday Party

Parenting July, 12, 2025

Birthday parties are no more just a matter of joy. Parents of this golden age find themselves stuck under the weight of big bills while arranging for their nuggets’ birthday parties. The social position and reputation further add to their besets. But they breach their limits when they start shifting their burdens to the invitees. A mother shared a story in that context.

The mother received her son bubbling with joy when he came back from school one day. He told her about the birthday invitation that he got from his classmate. Taking it to be a usual affair, she went ahead to grab the details of the bash. To her horror, it was not an ordinary invitation. The mother of the birthday boy was looking up to have a go-karting party for her little nugget.

What made her mind go for a toss was the fact that the woman wanted the children to bring £70 and Amazon vouchers to be a part of that group.

The wish list was long and eccentric. The mother of the birthday boy wanted to have Amazon vouchers as the birthday gift of her son. Not just that but the woman went ahead unabashed to list out the Kart deposit, the transportation cost, and other things. After doing a little bit of investigation, the mother discovered that the woman had invited the whole class.

Then the mother started to receive a regular dose of messages from the woman regarding further demands. Her patience burst up when the woman went ahead to ask her for ice packs and extra stuff to relieve the birthday boy of party obligations.

Reeling under with the obnoxious streak of demands, the mother ended up breaking her silence on parenting platform- Mumsnet.

Shedding light on her story, she said, “Son is at a newish school – he was so happy to have been invited to a karting birthday party – turns out the whole class were invited. Details were: the date, the activity, transport provided (it’s an 80 mile round trip) and a request of Amazon vouchers for a present”.

Revealing the mounting cost part, she said, “In the last few weeks I’ve been updated with further texts asking for deposits for the karting (£20) and the remainder of the day (£30). THEN that was followed up by a request for £20 for the transport”.

Not just that but she also brought out the critical point by sharing, “This morning she (in my opinion) has the gall to request we pack a generous picnic with ice packs and pack extra so the birthday boy doesn’t have to bring anything”.

Like her, other parents could not also bear the incoherent wish lists of the woman. One of them said, “She essentially wants everyone else to pay for her son’s birthday. No way would my child be going”.

Hopefully, the lashes would have reached the ears of the woman and changed her perspective.
