Dad Makes a Petty Move by Depositing the Baby Shower Money Into His Account
When a couple decides to have a baby, they should be well-prepared to incur a lot of expenses- from buying nappies, bottles, and other essentials their little one will need, to maternity clothing and nursery furniture. Parents may like to hold a baby shower to celebrate the upcoming birth by throwing a baby shower; however, the cost of such an event can be kept to a minimum if desired.
Nevertheless, one father-to-be expressed his wish to spend money extravagantly on a fancy baby shower for his pregnant wife. Taking to the internet, the anonymous man from the US revealed that his wife had preferred a smaller celebration, but he wanted a bigger party. He booked a venue and paid for everything, which cost him around £2,000 in total. However, it was his acts after the party that provoked outrage, not his actions during the party.
After the shower, the man said he collected all the money they had received from the guests and deposited it into his bank account to cover the costs of the day. Posting on one of Reddit’s groups, he explained that his wife and he were expecting their first baby boy. They were due in May, so they organized their shower last weekend. He claimed that her wife’s family didn't really plan the whole thing other than decorating, so he ended up buying a venue as he wanted to make a big deal out of it to make his wife feel special.
He confessed that he was okay with spending $2,500 on the venue. He wanted to do a co-ed thing and invite his friends and family too. After paying for the place, his account was exhausted and it was two weeks for his salary to get credited to his account. So he took all the cash they were given in cards and deposited it into his account. They ended up getting $1600, so he only had to spend roughly $1000 for the shower.
He further said that his wife was mad about what he did as she felt the money should be used for more baby things and not to pay himself back. The to-be father answered her that he couldn't go two weeks without any money in his account. His wife responded by saying that he should have thought about it before spending all the money.
He later revealed that his wife was also upset because most of the money came from her family’s side. The husband assumed that whatever money they got was going towards paying for the shower, and she assumed that it would be for whatever else they didn't get on their registry. He said that he couldn't help but think that she was being ungrateful about the situation, but he also admitted that he should have probably planned ahead so he wouldn’t be out of money. He would probably spend the money on baby goods anyhow, but he also needed money for gas and food.
More than 3,900 people replied to the post, with many of them agreeing that the soon-to-be father was in the wrong. One person asked him to grow up. They questioned him about how he could not be prepared for a baby on the way and decide to deplete his account for a party that his wife didn't even want.
Another said that, being a 29-year-old man, he should know how to manage his money. A third commentator said that if he didn't want 0$ in his account, he shouldn’t have taken that much out in the first place.
