Against the Taliban's bans on women, Afghan men left classes
Taliban has passed a law to prevent women from getting an education. This decision has affected the lives of all the women living there. However they are not alone as Afghan men have come in support of them. In response to the Taliban's order about 60 professors employed by various colleges resigned from their positions and several male students left their classes.
Taliban overthrew Afghanistan’s government in the year 2021 and took over the whole nation. Since 2021 they have made several laws that have affected the lives of people living there. Women are the ones who are affected by their laws the most out of everyone. Today there are neither able to work freely nor able to get an education. However the people there seem to be done with the Taliban’s authoritarian rule. They are coming in support of those who are getting impacted.
In Afghanistan recently Taliban has imposed a ban on women getting an education. Women living in the Taliban won’t be able to enroll in schools or colleges from now on. In response to the decision several males left their classes in protest. They all walked out of their classes to display their protest. In favor of women many university professors in Afghanistan also took strike action.
The Taliban's minister of education had even justified the government's decision to bar women from enrolling in colleges and universities. They are justifying their decisions by saying they had instructed the women to wear proper hijabs before coming to college but they were not listening to them. According to them they used to come to college dressed as if they were going to attend a wedding. Therefore they didn’t have any other option to completely stop them from coming to college and getting an education.
Another reason that the Taliban’s education minister gave was that the girls were majoring in engineering and agriculture which didn't fit with Afghan society. In order to prevent the mixing of genders in colleges still run by the regime they had to stop the girls from getting an education. Furthermore they believe that girls should learn but not in subjects that violate Islam and Afghan honor. They believe that they are not stopping the girls from getting an education but they won’t allow them to get it at the cost of Islam’s honor.
Nonetheless people living there were just done with the Taliban’s authoritarian rule. Following the Taliban's directive about 60 teachers across universities resigned from their positions. A number of male students also left these institutions in support of their female peers. This time it seemed like they are going to stand against the wrong directives.
Many people living in Afghanistan have given their opinion on the ban imposed by the Taliban regime. A university associate professor who spent more than 10 years in the higher education field as a student and instructor revealed that such tactics have hurt him a lot. He was one of the professors who resigned from the college. He expressed that he had no other option but to leave the college and teach as an independent professor.
The professors further revealed that the troops of Taliban patrol the campuses to stop demonstrations and reactions. They have even forbidden people from congregating there. He added that they even briefly detained some of the female women's rights advocates for their refusal to demonstrate. Nonetheless the condition is deteriorating day by day in Afghanistan.
