A woman Tries Buying a Child at Walmart, Gets Arrested
A woman spotted a child in the check-out line at Walmart. She was determined to buy the child and started negotiations with his mother. Obviously, the mother was offended and called the police on her. The woman was later arrested for the insane act.
The checkout counter of Walmart or any other supermarket has little stalls to pursue you to buy some small items like chewing gum, candies, or chocolate bars. You can pick things that you forget to keep in your basket while waiting in the queue. However, there are certain things that one can never think of buying and one such item is the human child.
Trying to buy a human child is not only a felony in all parts of the world but also unethical. Buying and selling of lives were done way back in history and it was called slavery. Today, one can face severe charges just for trying. Execution is not even mandatory.
A woman named Rebecca Taylor tried to buy a child at the Walmart in Texas while she was in the check-out line. The mother of the child was waiting in line just like others to get her items checked out. Little did she know that she would be offered a price for her child. She alleged the other woman to try and take her child with her along with other items.
As we all know that little children just enjoy roaming around the mall in the trolley. The mother had also kept all her children in the trolley while shopping for her household items. Rebecca, 49-years-old, spotted one of her children and approached the mother. Initially, she made some generic comments about the baby. Thereafter, she came to the actual point.
Rebecca cited an amount of $250,000 to buy the child she liked. The mother, obviously, found it a ridiculous demand. Why would she want to sell her baby? She was shocked by Rebecca’s attempt to buy her child. She immediately told her off and moved on her way. However, Rebecca was determined to buy the child. Therefore, she doubled the initial amount and offered $500,000.
Rebecca was so ignorant to believe that the price wasn’t the issue that the mother had behind not accepting her offer. No mother would sell her child, certainly not at Walmart where she went to buy stuff for the household, at any cited amount.
When the mother made it clear that she was not interested in selling her child at any cost and started minding her own business, Rebecca even went as far as to threaten her. She tried snatching her child away from the mother. She wanted the child either through negotiations or by force. Luckily, the mother was able to save her child from Rebecca’s grasp. She informed the authorities about what Rebecca was trying to do and left as soon as possible.
The Walmart authorities called the police. Fortunately, Rebecca was arrested in time and was not able to follow the mother for her child. She was charged with a purchase and sale of a child. It is a third-degree felony in Texas. There was no evidence found about her past attempts to do the same. Therefore, she was granted bail after paying $50,000 and was released from jail.
It is a relief that the name and address of the mother were kept a secret so that Rebecca couldn’t approach them after getting out of jail. If she would be convicted of the alleged charges, then she could face a fine of $10,000 along with 10 years in prison. The burden of proof is on Rebecca only.
